Developing an assistive interface for individuals with spasticity disorders cd.

4. DATA ACQUISITION

Collecting data to better understand the challenges that are associated with various spastic users is a very crucial step. A Graphical User Interface (GUI), GraphLocations, shown in Fig. 1, has been developed. Data is collected by acquiring the cursor locations while a user navigates the screen. There are eight possible scenarios associated with GraphLocations, corresponding to the eight cardinal locations, which the user may take.

Once GraphLocations is opened, one of eight possible locations is chosen. The user is then prompted to go from the BEGIN button to the END button. Once the BEGIN button is clicked, the GUI starts sending the cursor location data to the program mtestd. The GUI stops sending data when the END button is clicked. This is done for all eight scenarios. The received data is then recorded in a log file and the file is output for visualization and further analysis of spasticity. One such example of the plotted data is depicted in Fig. 2.
