Present face and jaw surgery and dental prosthetics have a wide range of wire and clamps, splints, bindings and seams made of wire, are used to reconstruct damaged parts of face and jaw or when making prosthetic fillings. The majority of wire is made of austenitic stainless steel. It must be highlighted that austenitic steel can be used in medicine only as material for short-time implants.
The process of wire production, that is in its main part a process of plastic cold working, is complicated and complex as far as its performance is concerned. Each of carried out activities or technological processes may influence the quality and properties of drawn product.
Carried out tests showed that “hard” wire with diameter of 1,0 mm features correct mechanical properties. It means that the established technology of wire production is correct. The wire may as well be used in dental prosthetics and face and jaw surgery.
