Biochemical experiments confirm that Eg5 is non-processive. Processivity was obtained from gliding assays in the presence of methylcellulose (see section 3.2). From performed experiments the speed of Eg5 was measured and ATP and motor density dependences were analyzed. The highest speed of Eg5 is around 16 nm/s and with 1 μM ATP concentration microtubule movement was still possible to observe. These results can be used in future experiments to observe single Eg5 molecule using Optical Tweezers techniques.
